ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY LEGISLATION REGISTERS AND UPDATING SERVICE

These Registers are a comprehensive and up-to-date source of relevant site-specific national, provincial and local legislation. They contain discussions on and interpretation of the legislation and, where appropriate, hyperlinks to the relevant text of the legislation.

The ELC advises on how relevant legislation, regulations and standards, contained on a client’s Register, apply to that client's environmental management and auditing systems.

The Registers are versatile products that provide vast quantities of integrated information in one place.  They include the following features:

• electronic copies of relevant national, provincial and local legislation
• relevant policy documents and White Papers
• discussion and interpretation of legislation
• relevant international conventions
• copies of permits, licenses and supporting documentation, if required

In addition, The ELC provides a monthly Updating Service for the Registers which includes:

• a report on all actual or proposed changes to the Acts, Laws, Ordinances, By-laws and Regulations on the Registers

COMPLIANCE EVALUATION SCHEDULES AND UPDATING SERVICE

In order that clients may periodically evaluate their compliance with applicable legal requirements, The ELC has developed Compliance Evaluation Schedules (the “Schedules”).

These Schedules enable clients to assess their entire operation for legal compliance in accordance with any management system, such as ISO 14001. The Schedules are a powerful management tool that will assist clients to identify, on a site-specific basis, any shortcomings or deficiencies in their management systems in order that these may be corrected prior to any audit. In addition, the Schedules allow clients to keep records of the results of such periodic evaluations. This Service is:

• based on and developed in conjunction with Environmental, Health and Safety Legislation Registers
• available online.

The ELC also provides a monthly Updating Service for the Schedules which includes:

A monthly newsletter, titled GREEN LAW MATTERS, is available to clients who subscribe to The ELC’s online services. This newsletter contains snippets of information on South African national, provincial and local authority legislation, international conventions and South African case law.

• each piece of relevant legislation
• all related legislation
• relevant policy documents and White Papers.

The ELC’s online product range provides clients with the option of uploading various documents onto their Registers, such as:

• Aspect and Impact Registers
• Risk Assesments
• industry-specific standards and
• permits.

All Discussion Pages, legislation and other documents on a client’s database are hyperlinked. This means that users are able to “roam around” the database with ease. The database can be made available to any user who has been provided with a client-specific username and password.
